RRD Parter John F. Costa Gives Long Term Care Presentation On Strategies for Attacking DPH Surveys

On July 24, 2013, RRD Partner John F. Costa gave a presentation at the American Conference Institute's Long Term Care Regulatory Boot Camp in Chicago.  The presentation focused on strategies for keeping negative surveys out of evidence and how to use surveys as a sword during mediation. What the DPH did not cite a facility for is quite telling and can be a very persuasive argument during mediation.

Dismissal Obtained on Behalf of City

RRD Partner Michael Ryan and Associate Jonathan Zellner recently obtained a dismissal of a plaintiff’s complaint on behalf of a Connecticut municipality, its police department and its chief of police in an action in which the plaintiff sought to prevent eviction from his property. The plaintiff had lost a foreclosure action in the Connecticut Superior Court, which entered a judgment of strict foreclosure. After title to the property was transferred to the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, a Connecticut State Marshal served the plaintiff with a notice to leave the property.

RRD Named Connecticut’s 2013 Insurance Litigation Law Firm of the Year

On May 13, 2013, the Connecticut Law Tribune announced that it has named Ryan Ryan Deluca LLP as the Insurance Litigation Legal Department of the Year in recognition of its outstanding record of success on behalf of its clients. The award was based in part on the fact that of the 14 cases that the firm tried to verdict in 2012, 11 of them resulted in defense verdicts and another one resulted in a verdict that was lower than the settlement offer extended before trial, a winning percentage of 86%.

RRD Volunteer Corps steps forward at "March for Babies" walk in Stamford

On April 28, 2013, partners, associates and staff of Ryan Ryan Deluca, LLP in Stamford volunteered with the March of Dimes “March for Babies” walk in Stamford. This event raises awareness of challenges facing babies born too soon and raises funds for research and programs to help babies begin healthy lives. Ryan Ryan Deluca has recently initiated the “RRD Volunteer Corps” and looks forward to participating in many more programs and events to give back to its communities.

Michael Young Wins Defense Verdict in Underinsured Motorist Case

RRD Associate Michael Young obtained a defense verdict on behalf of an insurance company in an underinsured motorist case on April 11, 2013.  The plaintiff, a teacher at Stamford High School, was walking down a sidewalk towards her husband's car after school and came to a stop at the edge of the sidewalk next to a private driveway for the school.  The plaintiff claimed that as she approached the driveway the tortfeasor entered the driveway at an unreasonable rate of speed.  The plaintiff also claimed that the tortfeasor failed to maintain reasonable control of his vehicle and

RRD Partner John F. Costa Wins Defense Verdict in Claim for Loss of Eye

A defense verdict was obtained by RRD partner John F. Costa on behalf of an ophthalmologist involving a rare and tragic complication from cataract surgery. The plaintiff ultimately had her eye removed due to blindness and atrophy following two additional surgeries to correct a detached retina.
