RRD Forms Volunteer Corps to lend a Helping Hand

When Hurricane Sandy struck our region, Associate Beck Fineman wanted to help our neighbors in Stamford who had been affected by the storm.  So, RRD attorneys and staff teamed up with the American Red Cross to assist at a local storm relief shelter.  Since then, RRD has continued to pitch in to help our local communities.  We helped to clean up Stamford’s Cove Island Park, an area Hurricane Sandy hit particularly hard, and we assisted local non-profit DOMUS with its annual “Holiday Mall” event, providing holiday gifts to local families in need.  These efforts are only a

Partner Chuck Deluca Presented E-Discovery Seminar to CT Defense Lawyers Association

Partner Chuck Deluca presented an e-discovery seminar to the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association on November 28, 2012.   Chuck headed a committee which drafted the Connecticut Rules of Practice pertaining to electronic discovery as well as the commentary to the rules.  Chuck explained the history of the rules and their application to the practice of law in Connecticut State Courts.  If you have any questions concerning these newly adopted rules, Chuck would be happy to answer them.

RRD Partner Dan Ryan Wins Defense Verdict for Eye Surgeon

Partner Dan Ryan received a defense verdict on behalf of his client, an anterior segment eye surgeon, in a case in which the plaintiff's demand was in excess of $1 million. The plaintiff alleged that the defendant physician fraudulently diagnosed Iris Bombe and performed unnecessary YAG laser surgery for relief of elevated intraocular pressures. The plaintiff further claimed that the defendant surgeon fraudulently diagnosed her with cataracts, performed unnecessary cataract surgery and inserted an inappropriate intraocular lens.

Catherine Nietzel and John Cannavino earned a defendant's verdict for their client, a New York City mergers and acquisitions lawyer whose former wife had accused him of intentionally inflicting emotional distress by keeping their children from her during one summer when he believed she intended to remove the children from the country.   Recently, post - divorce tort actions have become more common in Connecticut.

RRD Partner John F. Costa Speaks at DRI Long Term Care Conference

John F. Costa spoke at the Defense Research Institute's 12th annual Long Term Care Conference in Las Vegas on September 20th and September 21st. On the opening day, Costa participated in a presentation with fellow national counsel for CNA HealthPro, Max Beach, which focused on the preparation of a Medical Director of a Skilled Nursing Facility for testimony. Costa's defense verdict on behalf of a Medical Director from earlier in the year was highlighted during the discussion.

2012 Super Lawyers® Business Edition magazine has named Ryan Ryan Deluca LLP the top mid-size litigation law firm in Connecticut for the second year in a row.

The firm was chosen based on the number of firm attorneys who have been selected to the Super Lawyers list in business practice areas, as well as a combination of metrics indicating the quality of those attorneys. RRD Partner Chuck Deluca and Associate Beck Fineman Win Two Defense Verdicts for Metro North Railroad

Our Partner Chuck Deluca and Associate Beck Fineman won a unanimous defense verdict after a two week trial in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut on July 20, 2012 for long-time client Metro-North Railroad.  The case was brought by a railroad employee pursuant to the Federal Employers’ Liability Act (FELA) 45 U.S.C. § 51, which allows railroad workers to sue for on the job injuries caused by the negligence of the railroad.
